About Toquerville

Toquerville is a small city north of LaVerkin along Ash Creek, with 1,870 residents in the 2020 census. It was settled in 1858 by a handful of families near the Paiute village of Chief Toquer and named for him (Toquerville City, History). Black volcanic rock, old stone homes and orchards still shape the town, and newer custom homes have filled in around them.

Water and sewer

The Washington County Water Conservancy District lists its Cottam Wells as serving Hurricane, LaVerkin and Toquerville (Washington County Water Conservancy District, Water Quality); check your bill for your retail provider. Toquerville is one of the three cities in the Ash Creek Special Service District, which handles sewage collection and treatment (Ash Creek Special Service District, About Us). Some outlying properties may be on septic.

What comes up most

Historic and older homes

Older houses can hide galvanized pipe, mixed materials and add-on bathrooms. Low pressure, rusty water and slow drains are common signs. See repiping.

Larger lots, longer lines

Long service lines from the meter to the house and long irrigation runs mean more places for a leak to hide. A meter check with everything off is the quickest test. See leak detection.

Cold nights

Toquerville is higher than St. George and sees colder winter nights. Outdoor plumbing, garage pipes and exposed lines need protection. See the freezing nights guide.

Hard water

Softeners and water heater maintenance matter here as much as anywhere in the county. See softeners.
